“When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you.” - Deuteronomy 8:10.
A kind-hearted man gathered a group of neighborhood children for a small playtime. Wanting to bless them and teach a simple lesson, he brought out a large packet of biscuits and sweets. The children’s eyes lit up with joy as he handed each one a generous share. They laughed, ate happily, and thanked him sweetly at first. After a while, he smiled and gently asked each child, “Will you share just one biscuit back with me?” To his surprise and sadness, most of them clutched their treats tightly, shook their heads, or even hid what remained. Some even ran off with excuses. Later he said, “Their joy lasted only as long as the gift was new. The moment they had enough, gratitude vanished and forgetfulness took over. It was childish, forgetful, and ungrateful.”Beloved, how often do we act the same way toward God?
We cry out to Him in desperation, begging for a job, healing, a spouse, a child, protection on a journey, provision in hardship, and when He answers, we feast and become full. Yet soon the tears dry, the prayers become fewer, obedience grows cold, and we forget who gave us the blessing. Moses solemnly warned Israel: “Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God… when you have eaten and are full… lest when you have eaten and are full… you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth’” (Deuteronomy 8:11, 17, NKJV). He reminded them, “It is He who gives you power to get wealth” (Deuteronomy 8:18, NKJV).
Before your breakthrough you feared danger, but God kept His promise: “The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore” (Psalm 121:8, NKJV). Now that you are full, do not let forgetfulness steal your gratitude.
As the Lord blesses you again this year, guard your heart. Here are three beautiful ways to express lasting gratitude:(i) Give cheerfully back to God—in tithes, offerings, and charity to those in need.(ii) Obey His commandments, walk in His ways, and fear Him always: “Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him” (Deuteronomy 8:6, NKJV).(iii) Present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God—which is your reasonable service (Romans 12:1, NKJV).
The greatest gratitude is to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and live wholly for Him.Do not be childish, forgetful, or ungrateful. When you are full, bless the Lord. Remember His benefits. Return thanks with your life.
Today’s Recite: “Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits” — Psalm 103:2–5 (NKJV)
Today’s Morning Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for every blessing You have poured into my life. Forgive my past childishness, ingratitude, and forgetfulness. Pardon every time I have taken Your gifts without giving thanks or obeying Your Word. Today I dedicate my life anew as a living sacrifice to You, holy, acceptable, and fully Yours. Create in me a heart of constant gratitude. Fill me with grace to give cheerfully, obey faithfully, and live wholly for Your glory. May the blessings of gratitude and obedience overflow in my life, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
