FEBRUARY 1: FROM ADAMIC TO DIVINE NATURE

Daily Companion | 1 February

FROM ADAMIC TO DIVINE NATURE

And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. - Genesis 5:3 (NKJV)

The foundation of our topic today is this profound truth - all humanity is born sinners because of inherited likeness - the adamic nature. When God created Adam, He made him in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26–27). Image refers to the outward resemblance or form, while likeness speaks to the inward character, nature, and behavior. After Adam disobeyed by eating the forbidden fruit, sin entered him, corrupting his likeness to God. From that moment, Adam “begot a son in his own likeness, after his image” (Genesis 5:3) passing on the fallen, sinful Adamic nature to all his descendants (all humans).

Just as children naturally inherit traits, looks and character, from their parents through genes, sin was inherited from Adam and Eve. Scripture declares: “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned… by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners” (Romans 5:12, 19, NKJV). David confessed, “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51:5). Paul affirms we are all “dead in trespasses and sins… sons of disobedience… by nature children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:1–3, NKJV). Job asks, “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one!” (Job 14:4, NKJV).

So how do we escape this inherited sinful nature and receive the divine nature? (i) You must be born a second time, this time by God Himself, not by human parents. Jesus said, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:3–5,). “Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God” (1 John 3:9).(ii) You must be sanctified. “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality” (1 Thessalonians 4:3). God continues the work of making us holy, conforming us to Christ’s likeness.

Beloved, the Adamic nature brings death, but Christ brings life. Turn from the old nature today. Be born again, receive the divine nature, and walk in the victory Jesus won for you.Today’s Recite: If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17

Today’s Morning Prayer: O God, I thank You for Jesus Christ who died for my sins and rose to give me new life. I humble myself before You to receive Your divine nature through salvation and sanctification. Deliver me from the Adamic nature; make me a new creation in Christ. Help me maintain my heirship with You, keep me from all temptations, and deliver me from evil today. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen.
